Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of informational support on restlessness of patients with retained urethral catheterization in the stage of recovery from general anesthesia. Methods: Sixty esophageal cancer patients were randomly divided into two groups:The intervention group(n=30) were interviewed by the operating room nurses before operation and inducement of general anesthesia, and were given informational support about urethral catheterization besides the routine health guidance;the control group(n=30) received only the routine health guidance. The restlessness in the stage of recovery from general anesthesia was compared between the two groups. Results: The restlessness in the intervention group was much relieved compared with that in the control group(P<0.01).Conclusions: Preoperative informational support to patients with retained urethral catheterization could obviously relieve their restlessness in the recovery stage from general anesthesia.
