Mineral trioxide aggregate as direct pulp capping agent in human teeth

    • Objective:To observe the effect of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) as direct pulp capping agent in human teeth. Methods:Fifty teeth in patients between 18 and 40 years of age were randomly divided into two groups. The exposed pulps were capped with MTA or calcium hydroxide, respectively. All the cases were followed up for 2 and 3 years. Results:The pulp vitality and dentinal bridge thickness were both higher and thicker in the MTA group than in the calcium hydroxide group, but there was no significant statistical difference in the success rate between the two groups (P>0.05).Conclusions:MTA may be an ideal material as direct pulp capping agent in human teeth.
