Glaucoma surgery in persistent high intraocular pressure

    • Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of trabeculectomy for glaucoma in high intraocular pressure. Methods: Surgery was performed on 21 patients (24 eyes) with uncontrolled intraocular pressure with drug.Visual acuity, filtering bled, anterior chamber, intraocular pressure (IOP) and complications were observed after operation. Results: All of the 24 eyes underwent surgery successfully. All patients were followed up for 2-15 months. The IOP of 20 eyes were lower than 21 mmHg without any anti-glaucoma drug after the operation. After using part medicine IOP of 2 eyes were controlled. The visual acuity improved in 13 eyes (54.17%), visual acuity remained unchanged in 6 eyes (24%).Conclusions: To keep the vision function, trabeculectomy should be performed for glaucoma patients with persistent high intraocular pressure actively. It is safe and it can obtain satisfactory clinical effect with suitable management.
