Application of total mesorectal excision and double stapling technique in anus preservation of rectal carcinoma

Objective: To evaluated the values of both the total mesorectal excision(TME) and the double stapling technique in rectal carcinoma.Methods: Thirty-three patients with rectal carcinoma undergoing rectectomy with this technique were reviewed.Results: The anastomotic leakage occurred in 1 patient,and anastomotic stricture occurred in 2 cases in this group.All patients were followed up for 1 year to 5 years,and local recurrence occurred in 2 patients in this group.The rate of 3-year survival was 80%.Conclusions: Application of TME and the double stapling technique in anus preservation of rectal carcinoma can decrease the rate of local recurrence.It is safe,reliable and effective.
