Evaluation of health-related quality of life in patients having received reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament

    • Objective:To evaluate the limitation of Lysholm score in assessing the life quality of patients having undergone reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).Methods:Forty-nine patients (50 knees) who had received reconstruction of ACL were followed up for 6 to 12 months, and their quality of life was investigated by Lysholm and MOS 36-item short-form health survey (SF-36) before and six months after the operation. The relativity between the scores by Lysholm and by SF-36 were analyzed. Results:The scores by both Lysholm and SF-36 were significantly improved 6 months after the operation compared with those before the operation (P<0.01),but the scores of each item by SF-36 were different. Conclusions:It suggests that Lysholm score can assess the physical function and pain relief in the patients who had received reconstruction of ACL,but has limitation in evaluating the quality of life and other improvements. So it is of great significance to combine Lysholm with SF-36 in evaluating the results of reconstruction of ACL.
