The bone marrow cell morphology of 32 patients with multiple myeloma

Objective:To explore the cytomorphology and other related laboratory features of multiple myeloma(MM). Methods:The bone marrow cell morphology and related laboratory features of 32 patients with MM were retrospectively analyzed. Results:There were many laboratory test results of MM,such as anaemia,abnormal RBC distribution,higher sedimentation rate of red blood cell,remarkable increase of seroglobulin, decrease of albumin/globulin, albuminuria and so on. According to the bone marrow cell morphology, the multiple myeloma could be divided into 4 groups, as plasmocyte MM, proplasmacyte MM, plasmablast MM, and reticulocyte MM. Conclusions:Morphology observation of bone marrow cells is an important method in MM diagnosis,while blood routine examination, RBC distribution in blood smear,blood sedimentation and determination of serum protein also should be recommended. MM can be more exactly diagnosed by the examination of medullary cytology and the related laboratory examinations.
