    Phacoemulsification for infantile congenital cataract

    • Objective: To investigate the operative effect of phacoemulsification on infantile congenital cataract. Methods: Of the 43 eyes of 25 infants with congenital cataract, phacoemulsification was performed on 20 eyes of 11 infants, and cataract extracapsular extraction was performed on 23 eyes of 14 infants. All the cases were followed up for 12-18 months. Results: There were significant differences in the occurrence of various complications (P<0.05-P<0.005).Within 12 months, the phacoemulsification group had a lower rate of posterior capsular opcification than the cataract extracapsular extraction group (P<0.05).Conclusions: Phacoemulsification has minimal complications and can relieve or delay posterior capsular opcification.Intact circular capsularhexis will be necessary for stage 2 capsular bag reconstruction.
