Correlation of the concentration of serum homocysteine and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein with the area of cerebral infarction

    • Objective: To investigate the relationship between the changes of serum homocysteine(Hcy) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP) levels with the area of cerebral infarction in patients with acute cerebral infarction. Methods: The levels of serum Hcy and hs-CRP in 59 patients with acute cerebral infarction and 43 normal controls were measured. The relations between Hcy and hs-CRP,and the area of cerebral infarction were analyzed. Results: Except for the patients with lacunar infarction(P>0.05),the levels of serum Hcy and hs-CRP in all the patients with large or small area of acute cerebral infarction were higher than those in the controls(P<0.05-P<0.01).The levels of serum Hcy and hs-CRP increased with the accretion of the infarction area(P<0.01).Conclusions: Serum Hcy and hs-CRP levels are positively correlated to the area of acute cerebral infarction.
