Expression of vasculogenic mimicry in breast carcinoma and its significance

Objective: To study the expression of vasculogenic mimicry (VM) and its role in breast cancer. Methods: Specimens of 80 breast cancer were collected along with their clinical pathological data. VM expression was detected using CD31/PAS double staining and the correlation between VM and clinical pathologic factors was studied. Results: In 80 breast cancer cases,20 cases had VM positive expression,the positive rate of VM was 25.0%,60 cases were negative. It was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis (P<0.01). Conclusions: VM expression exists in breast cancer,and maybe it associated with lymph node metastasis of breast cancer.
